New video for the song Exit from the album Second Son.
The song Exit is the last song from the album Second Son and is one of my favourite songs that I have made to date. When I wrote the song Exit, I had the ending of a period of time. A relationship, a time living at a home or city – these were the endings I was thinking about when I made the song. I was in my own transition in 2017 when this song emerged during the production of Second Son.
When I approached making the video for Exit, I was in a different place. I found it difficult to translate the concept into something that I thought would make sense for more than just myself. This led me to the one relationship we all share – that we share with the biosphere as a whole. As humans we have moved throughout all parts of the world, and even beyond it. Conquering the limits of the Earth has given us a great deal of confidence as a species that we are moving in the right direction. Our perspective on this planet, however, is limited.
We share the planet with countless other lives that we categorize into both simple and complex. I recently watched a documentary called Wildlife Takeover: How Animals Reclaimed Chernobyl on how different species have adapted to the Chernobyl disaster of 1986. It made me wonder how the world would be if we made our exit. Would things get better or worse?
